Chris Froome set to miss UCI Road World Championships due to injury

Chris Froome is set to miss this month’s UCI Road World Championships due to the broken foot he sustained at the Vuelta a Espana, according to Sir Dave Brailsford.

The Team Sky rider had been on British Cycling's longlist for the worlds, which take place in Richmond, United States, from September 19-27.

Froome sustained the fracture in a crash on stage 11 of the Vuelta and quit the race the following morning.

On Froome's chance of racing in Richmond, Team Sky principal Sir Dave Brailsford told the BBC: "It looks unlikely. The fracture will take a while to heal."
