PDC World Championship: Adrian Lewis targets third World Championship title at Alexandra Palace
Tuesday 23 December 2014 19:02, UK
Adrian Lewis can put last year's semi-final heartache behind him when he faces David Pallett in the first round of the World Championship.
The Stoke man was beaten 6-0 by eventual winner Michael van Gerwen in last year’s semis, suffering a defeat against the Dutchman for the second year running at Alexandra Palace.
But the third seed has a proven pedigree in the tournament, taking the trophy in 2011 and 2012, and will be hoping for a flying start against Pallett.
Lewis ousted Mervyn King during his run to the last four and the Suffolk thrower returns to action in the same session with a first round clash against Max Hopp.
In a battle of youth and experience, the 48-year-old King will take on the teenage German, who has never progressed past the first round.
Stephen Bunting awaits the winner of the preliminary match and can take his first step towards a historic double.
The reigning Lakeside BDO champion switched to the PDC this year and is targeting consecutive world titles.
Crowd favourite Vincent van der Voort will kick-off the action against Scotsman John Henderson in the final day of first round action - the tournament will break for Christmas after tonight's session and return on Saturday.
