All eyes will be on Van Gerwen and Van Barneveld, the Dutch compatriots, whose match will indicate the moment that the World Darts Championship steps up a gear. The elder statesman Van Barneveld is a five-time world champion but hasn't lifted the top prize since 2007 while Van Gerwen has emerged as the world No 1 and took the Ally Pally trophy two years ago.

Overall, Van Gerwen sports a 23-15 record against Van Barneveld and has won their last three meetings.

There was a Raymond van Barneveld masterclass at Ally Pally as he hit five hundred-plus checkouts in a 4-3 victory

If that's not enough for one night at the oche, reigning world champion Anderson will continue his defence against Vincent van der Voort.

The Flying Scotsman has blended back into last year's successful run at Ally Pally seamlessly and owns a 7-2 head-to-head record against Van Der Voort.
