Michael van Gerwen pulls out of International Darts Open
Friday 2 September 2016 13:08, UK
Michael van Gerwen has been forced to withdraw from the International Darts Open due to medical reasons.
The world No 1 claimed the Perth Masters title last weekend, but the top-seeded Dutchman has been denied the chance to pursue more silverware in Germany.
Van Gerwen's scheduled second round opponent, either Ryan Meikle or Michael Rasztovits, will receive a bye through to the third round.
Peter Wright, Kim Huybrechts and Dave Chisnall are other top-four seeded players in the draw, which also includes reigning champion Michael Smith.
Kevin Painter has been pitted against Devon Petersen in the pick of the first round matches, while former European Tour finalist Jamie Caven meets Andy Boulton.
And Jeffrey de Graaf comes up against Joe Cullen in a battle of two exciting talents.
