Michael van Gerwen beaten while Peter Wright claims UK Open qualifier win

Michael van Gerwen’s three-month unbeaten run was ended on Friday night at the hands of Ritchie Edhouse at the UK Open qualifiers.

The Dutchman hadn't lost since October 16, a run that included a World Darts Championship triumph, but was dealt a surprise 24 hours after drawing with Gary Anderson on the opening night of Premier League Darts.

Edhouse, a 33-year-old carpet fitter from Enfield who won his PDC Tour Card at Qualifying School in Wigan a fortnight ago, claimed the biggest win of his career by beating Van Gerwen 6-5 in the last 64.

Peter 'Snakebite' Wright took victory in the evening's events, beating Adrian Lewis 6-4 in the final.

A missed double top in the ninth leg from Lewis was punished as Wright - the UK Open runner-up in the past two years - took out 68 to lead 5-4 before closing out the win in style with a 13-dart finish.
