Silverback falls short in comeback bid, loses final for a second time
Christian Kist completed his fairytale run at the 2012 BDO World Championship with a 7-5 win over Tony O'Shea in the final at Frimley Green.
The Dutchman followed up his triumph over Ted Hankey in the last round with another impressive display, at one stage racing into a 6-2 lead.
He had blown open a 2-2 scoreline by taking four sets in a row either side of the interval, O'Shea's struggles on his doubles leaving him with a mountain to climb.
However 'Silverback' threatened the mother of all comebacks by taking three sets on the spin himself, closing the gap to one and raising hope he could finally get his hands on the trophy.
Kist, though, kept his cool under pressure, breaking a six-leg losing run at the start of the 12th set before double 12 moved him a leg away from glory.
The 25-year-old, who had to qualify for the tournament via an international play-off, sealed victory by landing double 16 at the fourth attempt, clinching the title at the first time of asking, as well as the £100,000 first prize.
