England will meet Wales in the semi-final of the Cash Converters World Cup of Darts, while Australia take on the Netherlands.
Taylor and Lewis combine to thwart USA
English pair Phil Taylor and Adrian Lewis reached the semi-finals of the Cash Converters World Cup of Darts with a 3-1 win over United States duo Darin Young and Gary Mawson.
Taylor and Lewis had needed a sudden-death leg to defeat Canada in the second round of the Hamburg tournament and were again pushed hard.
Taylor lost his singles game with Mawson 4-3, Lewis edged out Young by the same scoreline in the second clash and then England claimed the deciding doubles by a 4-2 scoreline.
"It was an ugly win but you won't be 100 per cent in every game and we scraped through," said Taylor.
"Maybe we're trying too hard and sometimes you're pushing your darts, but we'll have a good night's rest now."
Miscounted
England will play Wales in the semi-finals after Mark Webster and Richie Burnett saw off South Africa's Shawn Hogan and Devon Petersen by a 3-1 scoreline.
Webster and Petersen won their respective singles before the doubles came down to a deciding leg.
Petersen thought he had secured victory for South Africa only to realise - too late - that he had miscounted, and Burnett returned to land double eight for the narrowest of wins.
"I feel for Devon," said Burnett. "He was fantastic in our singles match and he's a nice guy, so it was tough for him to miscount.
"We had loads of chances earlier to make it easier for ourselves but eventually we got the win, and that's all that matters. Me and Mark are bouncing off each other and loving the tournament."
The other semi-final pits Australia against reigning champions the Netherlands.
Australia duo Simon Whitlock and Paul Nicholson defeated Belgium's Kurt Van De Rijck and Kim Huybrechts 3-1, while Netherlands pair Raymond van Barneveld and Vincent van der Voort whitewashed Ireland's Brendan Dolan and Michael Mansell 4-0.
