PDC World Championship: Van Barneveld v Lewis, plus 'The Power' is back at the oche

Big names in third round clash

No. 14 seed Raymond van Barneveld improved as the game progressed on his way to a 3-0 win over Rowby-John Rodriguez.

Raymond van Barneveld meets Adrian Lewis on Tuesday evening as two of darts’ biggest names tussle on the oche at the World Championship.

The two former winners of the Alexandra Palace extravaganza came through gruelling second round contests to set up the most thrilling tie of the tournament so far.

Van Barneveld’s 2007 World Championship victory seems a long time ago and the Dutchman is looking to ridicule his number 14 seeding after winning a 4-3 thriller against Jamie Caven on Monday.

Lewis, the 2011 and 2012 champion, was also made to dig deep in his previous match. A rematch with the prodigious Keegan Brown must have rang alarm bells after Lewis shockingly lost to him at the Grand Slam of Darts, but experience prevailed on Sunday.

Tungsten Tuesday will also see Phil ‘The Power’ Taylor back on the oche as he takes on Kim Huybrechts.

The legendary 16-time world champion has coasted so far, thrashing Mark Webster 4-0 in the second round, only losing four legs in the whole match.

Huybrechts was pushed harder but overcame Ian White 4-3 to progress a stage further than last year.

Colourful

Tuesday will be kicked off by two of darts’ most colourful personalities as Peter ‘Snakebite’ Wright faces Andy ‘The Hammer’ Hamilton in the afternoon.

An emotional Wright, an Ally Pally crowd favourite, credited his supporters as he defeated Ronny Huybrechts last time out while Hamilton ground out a 4-2 win over Kyle Anderson.

Exciting newcomer Cristo Reyes will return to the oche to meet Gary Anderson, his sternest challenge to date. The previously unknown Spaniard has captured public imagination by emerging from the Iberian qualifiers to eliminate Wes Newton and Kevin Painter – but Anderson presents a tough test having beaten Jelle Klaasen.

Dean Winstanley v Vincent van der Voort rounds off the afternoon session before an evening featuring Lewis v Van Barneveld and Taylor v Huybrechts is completed by Stephen Bunting against Michael Smith.
