Dave Chisnall is top of the Premier League after a one-sided win over Gary Anderson on Thursday.
Chizzy extended his shock undefeated streak with a relentless if unspectacular 7-2 stifling of the world champion at Exeter's Westpoint Arena.
The St Helens thrower, now the only player without a loss in five weeks of Premier League action, moved a point clear of Michael van Gerwen at the summit of the table after averaging 110.78.
The prospect of the undefeated underdog Chisnall meeting the World Championship winner Anderson in the evening's finale was the most anticipated match-up of the evening and began in the explosive fashion that fans hoped for.
Chisnall reeled off a handful of efficient shots to quickly nick the opening leg and although Anderson thumped home a maximum to assert some authority, Chizzy broke his throw moments later and had the darts in hand to move three clear.
The Flying Scotsman kept the contest alive by taking out 90 to immediately break back but that ultimately prove to be his finest strike of the evening.
Raising the bar further, Chisnall narrowly missed a 136 checkout but still registered a third consecutive break to take a 3-1 lead.
Anderson's accuracy rarely waivered but Chisnall's 100-plus average never looked likely to budge. He may have wrapped up the contest when leading 3-1 but, poised to take out just 40, Anderson beat him to the punch and checked out from 65.
Yet nothing affected Chisnall's steely resolve as he swiftly notched a fifth leg before breaking Anderson's throw to guarantee a point, then moving top of the Premier League with a seventh-leg checkout.
