Brawn GP driver wins again despite four pits stops

Malaysian Grand Prix winner Jenson Button labelled the race as "crazy" after a torrential thunderstorm brought confusion at Sepang. The Brawn GP driver claimed victory for the second time in as many races - Button leading when monsoon conditions brought the race to a halt after 32 of the scheduled 56 laps. He made a total of four pit stops - including visits to change from full wet weather tyres to intermediates and back again - as the rain became increasingly heavier. However, despite making a poor start and also being passed for the lead by Timo Glock - the Toyota driver on intermediates before the worst of the weather arrived - Button was out front when the safety car came out on lap 31. "My start was pretty bad, I had a lot of oversteer in the car and I don't think I got heat into the rear tyres. I went back to fourth, got back up to third and eventually got back to the front and I was pretty happy," said the Englishman, who retook the lead following his first pit stop on lap 18. "Our pace was good and then the rain started. Choosing the tyres became difficult because when it rains here it usually pours, but it didn't to start with. We went for the full wet tyre and it just destroyed itself. "I saw Timo flying up behind us on the inter so we put the inter on. Just as he came by I saw his tyres were bald. It was raining out the back so he had to pit. "I was then able to get one lap in at reasonable pace before I had to pit and was able to get back out in front. "It was a very interesting race but I still haven't seen a chequered flag without a safety car," added Button, who took the chequered flag last weekend in Australia behind the safety car following a late accident. His 100 percent success rate so far means Button leads the driver's championship; however, because the race was halted before it had reached 75 percent of the scheduled distance, the top-eight finishers on Sunday were awarded half points. Button therefore leads on 15 points, with team-mate Rubens Barrichello - who finished fifth - second on 10 points.
