Brawn chiefs out of hot water with German sponsors

Brawn GP bosses have avoided potential embarrassment by resolving a legal fight with German consumer products group Henkel ahead of the new Formula One season. Last month Henkel filed legal proceedings against the F1 outfit, who have been bought out and will compete as Mercedes GP next year. The company was adamant that a three-year sponsorship contract, reported to be worth £80million, was void because the agreement was signed by a former employee without authorisation. Henkel insisted they informed Daimler, the parent company of Mercedes Benz, of the situation in September. However, Brawn officials will not need to be dragged through the courts as the issue has now been resolved.

Mutual agreement

"Brawn GP announce today the differences between Brawn GP and Henkel with regard to a Formula One sponsorship have been resolved by mutual agreement," said a Mercedes statement. "All potential claims will be dropped. As a consequence, all court proceedings will be withdrawn. "The new Formula One team Mercedes GP Petronas, together with the colleagues from the former Formula One team Brawn GP, will continue to co-operate with the prosecutor's office and assist in the further clarification of the matter." No further information on the matter will be forthcoming as all parties have agreed on confidentiality.
