Team looking for new backers for 2012 season

Williams are searching for a title sponsor for the 2012 season after their five-year deal with AT&T came to an end. The Grove-based squad and the telecommunications company have confirmed that they will not renew the partnership, which was reportedly worth around £4.5 million a season. "We have reached the conclusion of our partnership, the contract expired on Dec 31 by mutual agreement," a team spokeswoman said. A team source told Reuters that "the AT&T deal had not been 'sustainable' at the existing level and Williams were now in advanced negotiations with another telecommunications company for the title sponsorship". Williams, who have won seven drivers' championships and nine constructors' titles, are coming off a disastrous 2011 season. They picked up only five points and finished ninth in the standings. The team have confirmed Venezuelan Pastor Maldonado for the 2012 season, but they are yet to decide on their second driver.
