Launched in March 2012, Sky Sports F1 HD is a channel entirely dedicated to the fastest sport on the planet and the challenge of taking F1 broadcasting to a new level of excellence. For the assembled cast of experts, the challenge will be to provide a script worthy of the setting.
When, in the late summer of 2011, Executive Producer Martin Turner first pondered the composition of his team for the newly-conceived Sky Sports F1 channel, he quickly realised that the task before him was as straightforward as it was daunting: to pool together an array of talent both befitting a channel entirely dedicated to Formula 1 and capable of propelling F1 broadcasting to a new level of excellence. Just a few months later, when the first major unveiling of Turner's team took place, it became apparent that he had succeeded in his mission. Led by the acknowledged voice of F1 in Martin Brundle, it was a team which, to employ the modern parlance, covered all bases: in the likes of Brundle, David Croft, Anthony Davidson and Ted Kravitz, respected and credible F1 experience; in Simon Lazenby the homegrown talent born of Sky Sports' specialist sporting expertise. With a little of the old and a little of the new, it's a team which successfully married the best of both broadcasting worlds. "Together they have the technical knowledge, F1 experience and broadcasting pedigree to bring viewers the best insight into the sport," declared Turner. "Together, these are the perfect guides." The proof, though, was in words and not deeds.
