Kimi Raikkonen was reasonably happy with his third place in Sunday's Hungarian Grand Prix, although he conceded that luck played its part. The poor run of form currently being endured by the defending World Champion extended into qualifying, with Raikkonen starting sixth on a track notorious for its lack of overtaking possibilities. More of the same came at the start of the race, with Raikkonen being passed by Fernando Alonso on lap one, his Ferrari spending the next 50 laps stuck behind the Spaniard's Renault until the latter made his second stop. Running one lap longer, Raikkonen extended himself on the now clear track ahead, ensuring that he came out ahead of Alonso after making his own second stop. He became the fastest man on track in the final stint of the race, the Finn quickly closed up on Toyota's Timo Glock. However, he then had to back off when team-mate and race leader Felipe Massa suffered an engine failure. Nevertheless, the Brazilian's misfortune, coupled with an earlier puncture for Lewis Hamilton, allowed Raikkonen to finish on the podium in third place, alongside Glock and race winner Heikki Kovalainen. The Finn later said that, although he was happy with his car's race pace, qualifying still remains a problem. Raikkonen explained: "We could have managed to do the race a little better, and I was stuck behind Alonso all the way to the second stop. "I'm a little bit lucky with other people going all over the place. "We have the speed in the race, but if I can't get qualifying right then we will always end up like this. "We just need to sort out the problems and then we will be fighting for wins." As for the decision to halt the chase of Glock, he added: "Unfortunately we needed to back off. We were much faster, like with Alonso but it is so difficult. "It is very difficult to get past, you need something special in one corner. "Unfortunately I could not pass him. Third place in the end, after a difficult weekend for me, was a good result." Raikkonen's result also moved him up to second in the Drivers' Championship, five points behind Hamilton.
