Practice race abandoned due to downpour
Torrential rain at Monza has meant that the first practice ahead of the Italian Grand Prix has been rained off.
The downpour was so heavy that the water began to bubble up through the drains in front of the team garages.
The practice was then called off with five minutes remaining, as the rain showed no signs of stopping.
At the end of the 35-minute session, Adrian Sutil of the 10th-ranked Force India team was top of the timesheet, with a lap time of one minute 32.842 seconds.
Force India team-mate Giancarlo Fisichella and Honda's Rubens Barrichello managed to finish within a second of the leader but many of the top-ranking drivers failed to position at all.
Heikki Kovalainen and Lewis Hamilton of McLaren were two of six drivers that did not post a time, while the normally head of the pack Ferrari team finished 4.5 seconds and 7.3 seconds adrift of the leader.
The qualifying session is also expected to be hit with torrential rain and could face postponement.
