Mixed emotions for Kimi

"Pole gives you a massive edge in the race," says Finn

Despite achieving his best qualifying performance of the season so far, Kimi Raikkonen was disappointed to have lost out on pole position at the Monaco Grand Prix. As the third and final session of qualifying reached its conclusion, the Finn crossed the line in a time of one minute 14.927 seconds, to leave only Jenson Button out on track with a chance of beating him. The championship leader duly did just that - Button pipping the Ferrari driver to pole by 0.025s, a result that left Raikkonen both pleased and disappointed in equal measure. "I'm happy that we are second after the start of the season, but here it is not very good because it's not easy to pass and pole gives you a massive edge in the race," said Raikkonen, who currently lies joint 12th in the drivers' championship. "We will see what we can do for tomorrow and try to maybe go for the win." He added: "It is nice to be second, but it is still really not the first place by a small margin. "That's what we are aiming for and when we get there we will be happy. "But especially in this kind of race, in any other race it maybe doesn't make such a big difference, but here the difference is much bigger between first and second. "But it is going to be a long race so will see what we can do." The 2007 world champion does however have the power boost offered by KERS and, despite saying its advantage is less than that offered at other tracks, hopes to use it to beat Button off the line on Sunday. "Here it maybe can help a little bit but the straights are short and the run to the first corner is very tight, you really need to have a much better start," Raikkonen added. "But we will try what we can then see."
