Defender playing for new contract

Neil Ashton does not expect to have a future at Shrewsbury Town after joining Macclesfield Town. The defender has joined Macclesfield on loan until the end of the season and made his debut in last weekend's surprise win at Peterborough United. He still has 18 months remaining on his Shrewsbury contract, but now believes he is in the 'shop window'. "The fact that Macclesfield wanted me for the rest of the season was a big factor as I am not really a fan of the one-month deals because I don't really think you get enough time to show what you can do," Ashton told the club's official website. "So I am really looking forward to getting my head down and helping the team pick up a few points. "I've still got a year left to run on my contract, but realistically the next 20 games are a chance for me to put myself in the shop window."
