Osei Sankofa is confident he will be back in the Southend side in six weeks.
It was originally feared the former Charlton defender would miss the rest of the season with a knee injury, but after visiting a specialist it was revealed the 24-year-old would not face such a lengthy lay-off.
He told the club's official website: "I think it's realistic that I could be back playing in six weeks.
"My knee has calmed down quite a lot already and I've started my rehab which involves me trying to strengthen the areas around my knee."
