James targets first-team spot

New signing Ryan James aims to use the club's pre-season to nail down a starting place when the season gets under way.

The 21-year-old centre-back signed for Oxford on a six-month deal last Friday after impressing at the Nike Academy, which helps young players find professional clubs. James told BBC Oxford: "I want to try to get a place in the team and see what I can bring and then try to get offered something else. "I've been in and amongst centre midfield and forward and I started playing centre-back for Nike and I really enjoyed it. I started to push on and for the last two seasons I've been playing there. James has previously played for the QPR and Millwall youth academies, before stints with Grays Athletic and the Nike Academy.
