Lee Sawyer got 90 minutes under his belt upon his return from injury for Southend's reserve side on Tuesday afternoon.

The midfielder, who has been missing since the end of August due to a thigh injury, featured from the off as the Shrimpers triumphed 3-1 over Stevenage's second string at Roots Hall. Sawyer had a hand in Southend's second goal, when his shot was diverted into the back of the net from close range by Blair Sturrock. Southend were also left to draw on plenty of other positives as trialists Yannick Boli and Krisztian Timar both impressed. Striker Boli scored United's third goal of the afternoon while also having won a first-minute penalty - converted by Jamie Stevens - played a part in the build-up to Sturrock's second, headed against the crossbar and missed an open goal. Meanwhile, former Plymouth centre-back Timar proved his worth at the other end as he cleared off the line from Guy Madjo.
