Valiants swoop for O'Connor

Port Vale have signed Republic of Ireland Under-19 international defender Shane O'Connor on a loan contract from Ipswich.
O'Connor, who came through the youth ranks at Liverpool, will remain with the League Two club until January 3, 2012. He will go straight into the squad to face Torquay at Vale Park on Friday evening. "Shane was available and, with him having a number of Championship games under his belt, we felt it would be a useful addition to the squad," Vale boss Micky Adams told the club's official website. "With our current injury situation, I was determined to bolster the squad ahead of the transfer deadline on Thursday evening. "I am very pleased to be able to bring in a player of Shane's ability."
