Summer signing Gary Doherty has been named as Wycombe's new captain by boss Gary Waddock.

Defender Doherty, 32, joined Wanderers from Charlton recently after a 13-match loan spell at Adams Park last season. "Doc's experienced and well respected by the whole of the dressing room and among the fans," Waddock told the club's official website. "I didn't discuss it with him before he moved, but we've had a chat and I think he was a bit surprised. It's the right choice and it was an obvious decision." Meanwhile, long-serving midfielder Matt Bloomfield, who has made 286 appearances in eight seasons for the club, will be vice-captain.
