Howell modest after his winner

Dean Howell will let the fans decide if he should go down in Fleetwood folklore after his winner secured a 1-0 win at Burton.

Howell scored the club's first ever goal in the Football League and it gave the Cod Army their maiden victory as they beat Burton 1-0 at the Pirelli Stadium. The Burton-born full-back scored direct from a free-kick in the 47th minute. He said: "It was a great moment for me and a great moment for the club. It was all about getting the three points though and I'll leave it to the fans to decide whether I'm worthy of a place in the club's history." Fleetwood boss Micky Mellon recognised the value of Howell's left-foot effort. "We're delighted because we knew we needed to get that first goal and that first victory for Fleetwood Town as a Football League club," said the Scot. "I think we played a bit at times as though we were under pressure to get that first victory to try and move ahead. We can play much better that's for sure, but we showed another side of our game against a team that won 6-2 in the week. "We knew it was going to be difficult but I thought we were gritty and determined when we needed to be. We knew we had to get a result here because we hadn't got a victory in our first two games. I was pleased that we showed we can dig in when we need to and can be difficult to break down."
