Goalkeeper Shane Higgs has left Northampton Town after having his contract terminated by the League Two club.

The 35-year-old had fought his way back to fitness after suffering an Achilles injury in January, but was unable to wrestle the number one jersey from Lee Nicholls. "After long conversations we decided it was in the best interests of all parties to terminate Shane's contract," boss Aidy Boothroyd told the club's official website. "We wish Shane every success for the future." The former Leeds and Wolves stopper made just three appearances for the Cobblers this season, none of which came in the league. His last run out came in the FA Cup penalty shoot-out defeat to Bradford earlier this month.
