MacDonald the latest Latic out

Oldham's woes continue with boss Lee Johnson confirming striker Charlie MacDonald could miss up to six weeks with a thigh injury.

Latics last week confirmed a triple blow on the injury front with winger Cristian Montano, forward Kirk Millar and defender Edijs Joksts all set for extended spells on the sidelines. Now MacDonald, who has struck four times in 10 appearances since moving to Boundary Park this summer, will join his team-mates in the treatment room after exacerbating the problem in training. "We are short of strikers," Johnson admitted. "Charlie MacDonald has now been declared unfit for probably about four to six weeks which is not ideal for us. "I'm very disappointed in that one because he hasn't been fit enough this season but we just have to take that on the chin and move on. "We might be a little bit light in that department now. I might look to the free-transfer market, see if I can get anyone in until January, but it's difficult because there's not many about." The need for another forward is evident ahead of the festive period, particularly given Oldham remain in both the FA Cup and Johnstone's Paint Trophy competitions. Johnson's men went unbeaten during their six-game run in November but their attacking burden will now be shared between Jonson Clarke-Harris, Danny Philliskirk and Adam Rooney.
