Flitcroft wants Forrester stay

David Flitcroft has vowed to do all he can to extend the loan of Anton Forrester, which is due to expire on New Year's Day.

When Flitcroft draws up his hopes and aims for the Shakers in 2014, keeping hold of Forrester and fellow on-loan striker Daniel Nardiello is likely to be top of that list. And he revealed discussions have already taken place with Championship club Blackburn Rovers over the immediate future of teenage striker Forrester. "We're trying to strike a deal with Blackburn to keep Anton," revealed Flitcroft after Forrester scored the opener in a 2-1 win over York on Sunday. "I just think Anton needs the coaching staff around him. We can teach him and I think it fits right with Blackburn what they're trying to do. I think that would be positive. "He loves playing and he's really impressed me. I kept tabs on him a little bit at Blackburn and when he was at Everton, I just think there's more to come. "If we could keep him this season and potentially do a season-long loan next season I think we'd see the best of Anton Forrester." The player himself admits the situation is probably outside of his hands. "I'd love to (stay)," he said. "But you need to speak to Blackburn about it because it's whatever they want to do. "He (Flitcroft) said 'are you staying?' so I said I'll speak to Blackburn about it. I just want to be playing games."
