Crainey hails Fleetwood progress

Stephen Crainey admitted he was astounded by the progress of Graham Alexander's men following their goalless draw with Partick.

The Cod Army closed out their summer preparations with a goalless draw at Highbury and now set their sights on their debut campaign in the third tier of English football. Their meteoric rise has seen them promoted seven times in 10 seasons and their continued ambition persuaded free agent Crainey to sign last week. The 33-year-old full-back had been looking for a new employer following his release from Wigan and, having known the club from his time with neighbours Blackpool, Crainey jumped at the chance to be part of Fleetwood's incredible journey. "I met the gaffer and it was really appealing," he told Fleetwood's official website. "I'm glad that we have got it sorted and I can't wait to get started. The last couple of years, the progress has been unbelievable. Even when I was at Blackpool I came to a couple of games. "I'm delighted to be joining up and coming to the club. We want to keep progressing and hopefully we can keep doing that this season. "It's going to be a tough season. League One is a tough division, but if we get a good squad together then I'm sure it is going to be a successful year."
