Southend have completed the signing of striker Joe Pigott on a month-long loan deal from Charlton.

Pigott, 21, is familiar to Shrimpers boss Phil Brown, having played against Southend this season during a loan spell with Newport, where he scored three goals in six appearances for the Welsh club. "We're looking for goals and Joe's hold up play and movement is good," Brown told the club's official website. "He caught our eye in the behind closed doors game against Charlton the other week. He was impressed with the way we played as well. "He's one of the best finishers at Charlton and I'm hoping he can bring goals to the team. I don't want to put pressure on him." Pigott came through the youth ranks at Charlton, turning professional at The Valley in 2012. He has played 12 times for the Addicks, including two games for the Championship club this season. He has also spent time on loan at non-league Bromley and Gillingham last season. The deal for Pigott can be extended, but the initial loan will expire on February 10.
