Doncaster veteran Rob Jones has penned a new player-coach deal which will keep him at the club until 2016.
The 35-year-old centre-half, who joined Rovers in 2012, missed much of the recent League One campaign with a neck injury but returned to the team at the back end of the season and scored twice in five games. Jones had been undertaking a coaching role on an informal basis during his time on the sidelines but now his position has become official. He told the club's official website: "I've never expressed a wish to move on from here. I've been here three years and loved every minute of it. "Maybe I've shown people that I can still play - I managed to score twice in the final five games which is not a bad stat to have over the last few games of the season. "I've had my ups and downs and it's been difficult at times and it has now entered everyone else's heads that I can still play - it was five games of 90 minutes on the bounce and Rob Jones can still play at this level." Jones parted by saying that he will be the one who decides when to hang up his boots. "I've said it time and time again, I'm not going to allow someone else to dictate whether I can play or not," he said. "I will decide when the time is right (to retire). If I felt I couldn't do it any more then I wouldn't do it and I'd move on to the coaching side of it which I thoroughly enjoy. "I'm 35 but I don't feel 35, I feel good and I feel strong and as long as I feel that then I'll continue to play."
