Oxford United have agreed a deal to sign Manchester United defender Sean McGinty on loan at the League Two club until January.

The 18-year-old, who can play either left-back or on the left side of central defence, has linked up with the U's immediately and could make his pre-season debut in Tuesday night's home friendly against West Ham, although his stay does not officially start until the beginning of August. McGinty, a Republic of Ireland Under-19 international, is yet to appear for United's first team but gained League Two experience last season during a month-long loan spell with Morecambe. Oxford boss Chris Wilder told the club's official website: "Sean is a player I have watched on more than one occasion and he is a good player who has always impressed me. "He is very highly rated and will come into the group and give us another strong option. "It's another example of the excellent relationship we have with Manchester United and we look forward to working with him."
