Waddock backs Ibe to succeed

Wycombe manager Gary Waddock believes striker Jordon Ibe has the maturity to handle his 'life-changing' move to Liverpool.

A host of Barclays Premier League clubs were courting Ibe but the 16-year-old forward will move to Anfield in January after the two clubs reached an agreement on Tuesday. "There was a lot of interest in him but it was his decision to pick the right club. It was purely down to Jordon and his family and it was always going to be their call," said Waddock. "I have spoken to him and he has handled everything in a mature way and he is very excited. Going to a club like Liverpool I am sure he will develop and, hopefully, fulfil all that potential and become an outstanding player at that level. "For him and his family it is a life-changing decision, not just a career changing one but a life-changing one, and I am genuinely delighted for Jordon. He has handled everything very well." Ibe, who made 11 first-team appearances for Wycombe, shot to prominence this season, becoming the youngest ever player to represent Wanderers in the Football League and the youngest ever scorer for the Buckinghamshire club in its 124-year history when he netted with a stunning individual goal on his first professional start in a npower League One fixture against Sheffield Wednesday in October.
