League One play-off semi-finalists Preston have released six players including former captain John Mousinho.

Mousinho was made skipper under Graham Westley but struggled to break into the side this season and finished the campaign on loan at Stevenage and he departs along with Nicky Wroe, Graham Cummins, Ryan Croasdale, Chris Beardsley and Alex Nicholson. "These decisions have to be made, most of these players have been out on loan at different clubs and have been successful with one or two of them and we move on as a football club," boss Simon Grayson told the club's official website. "Squads evolve, players leave and new ones come in, but what I will do is wish those players good luck in the future. "They have played a part in this football club and they have been fantastic professionals, never having one moment of trouble with them whether they have been in the team or not." Full-back Ben Davies and goalkeeper Steven James have had 12-month options on their contracts triggered and will remain at Deepdale. Iain Hume and Shane Cansdell-Sherriff are out on loan at Fleetwood and Burton respectively and decisions will be made on the pair's futures when they return.
