Pike: Naivety cost Gosport

Alex Pike admitted a clinical Colchester exposed his Gosport Borough side's naivety on their way to the FA Cup second round.
Justin Bennett netted twice for the Conference South side and Lee Wort scored late on but the U's won 6-3 through Gavin Massey, Sanchez Watt, Alex Gilbey, Sammie Szmodics and two for Freddie Sears. "I think there was a gulf between the two clubs," said Pike. "We were well prepared and all of the things that we passed onto the players were true and came to fruition, so that's the disappointing thing. "Their finishing is more clinical and their passing was better but in order for a non-league team to compete, you have to stick to your game plan and get in their faces and disrupt that pattern. "I don't think we did that in the first half - we gifted them the ball and chances and if you do that at their level, you get crucified." Colchester manager Tony Humes added: "I was really pleased with everything that happened. I thought we looked comfortable and the players have done terrific. "How we prepare for games is the same week in, week out, no matter who we're playing. "It was a great atmosphere and it's about our young players learning to play in different environments and experiences. "Ideally, it would be great to have a home draw in the second round but we'll wait and see what comes out of the hat. "We'd like the opportunity to play against a bigger club and that would be another chance for the players."
