Moncur sends Colchester through

Image: George Moncur: Bagged the crucial winner

George Moncur's stoppage-time strike sent Colchester through to the FA Cup third round with a 1-0 win over Peterborough.

Moncur planted a low shot home from the edge of the area moments after U's goalkeeper Sam Walker had denied Posh's Aaron Mclean from the penalty spot following Sanchez Watt's foul on Michael Bostwick. Peterborough should have taken the lead after 20 minutes but Mclean fired straight at Walker, while Moncur's well-placed side-footed effort was pushed away by Posh keeper Ben Alnwick. McLean went close in the second half when his goalbound effort was blocked by U's debutant Kaspars Gorkss, while Walker pushed away Jermaine Anderson's shot. Gabriel Zakuani then hit the bar for Posh, before Colchester won it through Moncur's classy strike to take their place in the third-round draw.
