Stadium progress for Southend

Southend chairman Ron Martin has expressed his delight after the club took a step closer to their planned new stadium at Fossetts Farm.
Planning permission was given a three-year extension by Southend Council on Tuesday, while approval was also granted for Sainsbury's plans to redevelop the current Roots Hall site. Martin told the club's official website: "I'm delighted. It's a big tick in the box and a great result. I'm looking forward to the future." The extension comes after the club's new stadium proposal was first given full clearance in 2008.
