Brown curses inexperience

Southend boss Phil Brown believes his side's inexperience showed in their 3-1 loss at Newport.

A stunning free kick from defender Ben Coker was the only highlight for Phil Brown's side who suffered just their second away defeat since August. Brown said: "It wasn't the result we wanted and more importantly it wasn't the performance we wanted. "I thought the conditions would have suited the way we play but the pitch cut up and Newport played it better than we did. "They are used to this kind of environment and atmosphere and the inexperience of our boys showed through a bit. "Sometimes you need that little bit of experience in your side but we've got a few players missing and we've had to replace them with young lads. "I didn't think we there was too much between the two sides in the first half but we have gifted them two goals and that's what's cost us. "I was thinking of making three changes at half time but I am not sure these young lads deserved that. "We sent them in to do a man's job and one or two of them found it difficult."
