Bees held by determined Hartlepool

Hartlepool ensured their League One survival with a gutsy goalless draw at Brentford. The Bees had the better of the few chances in a hard-fought contest but lacked the killer punch and Pools survived on goal difference thanks to Gillingham's defeat at Wycombe. Brentford winger Myles Weston went closest with a 30-yard screamer which Hartlepool keeper Scott Flinders tipped over. At the other end Bees keeper Wojciech Szczesny had to be at his best to thwart Roy O'Donovan with a brilliant double save when the striker was through with 15 minutes remaining. Weston sent two volleys flashing just the wrong side of the post as the Londoners, who lost towering defender Leon Legge to a head injury, searched for a three-point end to the season. They thought they had done it on the hour when Charlie MacDonald slammed home from a tight angle but his effort was ruled out for offside.
