PNE chief: Work is ongoing

Preston chairman Maurice Lindsay says the club are working hard to bolster their squad with more new signings.

North End have recruited former Falkirk defender Brian McLean and veteran utility player Graham Alexander, but Lindsay says further additions could be made. Boss Phil Brown is keen to sign a new left-winger and a left-back ahead of Saturday's season-opener at home to Colchester. Lindsay said: "I am in daily, almost hourly, contact with the manager and we are all conscious of the need for a left-back and in particular a left-winger. "We have been non-stop in our efforts for weeks. These efforts have not just started this week. "We are close to finalising both positions but if it doesn't happen before the Colchester game we will still continue our efforts until the window closes on August 31."
