Heys: Leam must prove worth

Image: Richardson: Could earn permanent role

Leam Richardson and his interim management team are working under no illusions at Accrington according to chief executive Rob Heys.

Experienced defender Richardson is in temporary charge of Stanley following John Coleman's departure to Rochdale, with veteran midfielder Bryan Hughes and head of youth Phil Hackney assisting. Heys has explained to the trio that an external appointment is the club's preference, although he is willing to reconsider if last weekend's 4-3 win over Gillingham is replicated over the coming games. "We've been open and honest with the three who have stepped in and done the job so far," he told the club's official website. "We've told them that they are an interim management team and we will look at other options. "It might be that in the next few weeks they do particularly well, at which point we'd ask them if they would apply for the job as well. "Speaking to Leam and the lads it would appear, as one would expect, that they would be interested in doing that. So I think it's a good idea to give them chance to give it a go and see where we are in a few weeks rather than a few days."
