Glovers dangle new deals carrot

Yeovil boss Gary Johnson will open contract negotiations with a few first-team players, should his side beat Bournemouth.

Victory at Dean Court this weekend would not guarantee the Glovers safety in League One, but it would take the Somerset side onto 49 points - a figure Johnson believes will be enough to secure their status in the third tier. And with that in mind, the Huish Park boss has revealed he would then be ready to start discussing new deals for the likes of Ed Upson, Andy Williams, Paul Huntington and Luke Ayling, whose contracts all run out in the summer. "I have informally spoken to them and some of them are in no doubt that I and the club would like to keep them," Johnson told the Western Gazette. "They already know that and it gives them a chance to think about it. "I think the minute that we are safe, as in not mathematically but one more result will seal it, at that point you can formally start talking to people and that is all I can do now. "Good players are going to get interest from other clubs, especially with the run that we have been on, and people are going to have a look at us and say 'it cannot just be the manager that has got them on that run, there must be some decent players there' - which there are."
