Gillingham manager Peter Taylor has revealed goalkeeper Stuart Nelson is only a couple of weeks away from returning to action.

Nelson, 33, has been out injured after damaging ligaments in his thumb during the opening-day defeat by MK Dons. But Taylor says the keeper has started training with the first team again and is pushing for a return. "He is training with us now and doing well," he told the club's website. "He is pushing on, which is good, and he will be delighted to be back out there. "He had been training using a softball and with protection around the hand but he is now grabbing the normal football again and looking all right. "He is not ready for first-team football yet but I don't think that is going to be far away. I would say a couple of weeks max."
