Wes inspires Robins comeback

Wesley Thomas bagged a brace as Cheltenham earned their first win of the season with a 3-2 home victory over Crewe.

It was the visitors who drew first blood in spectacular fashion when Patrick Ada smashed in a volley with just four minutes on the clock. Cheltenham equalised midway through the first half when Thomas fired in at the back post after a Brian Smikle shot had been saved by the superb Rhys Taylor. The Robins then went ahead just before the break when Thomas pounced at the far post after Smikle's right-footed shot was only half saved by Taylor. Crewe levelled matters in the 49th minute when Calvin Zola lashed in an Ashley Westwood cross at the back post. But Cheltenham hit back as Jeff Goulding restored their advantage with a sharp turn and low drive past a wrong-footed Taylor. Scott Brown produced a point-blank save to deny Shaun Miller a headed equaliser after 75 minutes while, in the last minute, Westswood's throughball eluded everyone including keeper Brown only to hit a post.
