McDonald back to reclaim spot

Port Vale defender Clayton McDonald is ready to fight for a first-team place after recovering from surgery on a dislocated shoulder.

The 22-year-old centre-back joined Vale on a six-month contract at the start of the month and after coming through four tour matches in North America unscathed, McDonald is confident he is fully fit. McDonald told the Sentinel: "The games had no effect on my shoulder at all. "I've just kept my head down, kept doing my strengthening work and I feel good. "I'm not worried about the injury because I know my rehabilitation work has gone well and I know the shoulder won't go again, so I'm ready to kick on with Port Vale."
