Johnson wants squad overhaul

Gary Johnson wants to bring in 10 to 12 new players and is targeting a handful of fresh faces before the end of May.

The Northampton boss has wasted little time in releasing his retained list after the club narrowly avoided relegation and is now set to orchestrate a complete overhaul in the coming months as he aims to build a promotion-winning side. Johnson told Town's official website: "I've got two or three hot targets and two or three players have already agreed to come in and speak to me. "We need new faces and we couldn't go into next season with the same group because there was a time where we were struggling near the relegation area so we obviously need to change things around a bit. "We are looking at all positions and I think we are going to need 20 senior players in the squad with some of the youngsters supplementing that. If you've got a small squad then you've got to have players who can play 90 minutes in 40-odd games a season. "Greg Kaziboni has been offered a deal but he is the only youth-team member coming through, so we are probably going to need to bring in 10 or 12 players. I'd like to sort out some players quickly and ideally I would love to have four or five in by the time I go away on holiday at the end of May."
