Northampton Town manager Gary Johnson has signed free agent striker Bas Savage on non-contract terms.
The 29-year-old has been brought in to help ease the club's injury problems and could go straight into the squad to face Accrington for the opening game of the season on Saturday. Savage started his professional career at Reading in 2002 after moving from non-league Walton & Hersham. After leaving the Royals, he signed for Bristol City on a short-term contract before joining Gillingham. His next stop was Brighton where he got off to a flying start, with four goals in his first eight appearances. He then moved on to Millwall in February 2008 on a contract that ran until the end of the season. That July, Savage joined Tranmere on a two-year deal before being released in the summer of 2010. He spent last season at Dagenham and was released at the end of the campaign.
