David Bird became Cheltenham's record appearance holder in the Football League when he faced Northampton at Whaddon Road.
The midfielder turned out for the 259th time in the 1-0 win to overtake former Robins player and current Under-16s coach Jamie Victory, who had previously held the record with 258 appearances. Bird, a product of Cheltenham's centre of excellence, joined the club at the age of 17 and went on to make his debut in February 2003. "I haven't been here for nine years for no reason," the 25-year-old told the club's official website. "I have been here because I want to be playing for this football team and I care a lot about this club. "There have been quite a few stand-out moments for me during the last nine years. "The big games like Newcastle and the play-off games were big occasions but it was a big achievement for me when I played the whole of the 2007/08 season."
