Cheltenham v Torquay preview

Team news ahead of Tuesday's Johnstone's Paint Trophy first round-tie between Cheltenham Town and Torquay at Whaddon Road.

Mark Yates is expected to several changes to Cheltenham's starting XI. Following their 3-1 victory against Crawley at the weekend, Yates may elect to use the Torquay fixture as an opportunity to give some of his squad players a chance to impress. Yates told the club's official website: "One or two players deserve a chance and one or two need a rest". Luke Summerfield, Harry Hooman and Brian Smikle will all be pushing for selection along with on-loan striker Jimmy Spencer who is available for selection after his three-match suspension. Defender Andy Gallinagh is still awaiting his debut after being excluded from the 16-man squad that beat Crawley 3-1 at the weekend, and may feature against Torquay. Torquay's recent loan signing Billy Bodin is pushing for a place in manager Martin Ling's starting XI. The striker impressed from the bench in Saturday's 1-1 draw against Dagenham and, subsequently, may earn a place in the starting line-up for the Southern Section first-round tie. Ling may also be able to call upon the services of Daniel Leadbitter, who joined on loan from Premier League side Newcastle in the summer, for the first time. The defender had been hampered by a hamstring injury but has returned to training and could be included should Ling choose to give his fringe squad players an opportunity. The Gulls will be hoping to improve on last year's showing in the competition, when they were knocked out in the second round by Swindon.
