Chesterfield defender Sam Hird has agreed a deal to extend his contract with the Spireites.

Hird was one of five players offered fresh terms following the club's promotion to League One and he will follow Ollie Banks, Jay O'Shea and Ritchie Humphreys in committing his future to the Blues. Having been placed on the transfer list early on in the season the former club captain ended the campaign a hero by scoring the first goal in the 2-1 home victory over Fleetwood which clinched the League Two Title. He told Peak FM: "I'm delighted to have signed, it was never in doubt that this was where I wanted to stay. "I am delighted that myself and the club have agreed a deal that suits both parties and I am looking forward to working hard for Chesterfield and having another successful season. "My aim is to keep my performance levels up and cement my place in the team and have another successful season with Chesterfield. I am on holiday at the minute so will be signing when I'm back".
