Wycombe have extended the loan deal of Brentford defender Alfie Mawson until the end of the season.

The 20-year-old has made a huge impression in the Wycombe backline since arriving at Adams Park on a short-term deal just 24 hours before the start of the League Two campaign. Mawson's stay with the Chairboys was expected to finish on January 1, but the Bees have given the green light for him to remain with Gareth Ainsworth's high-flying outfit. Ainsworth told the club's official website: "Alfie had never played a Football League game before he came to us and slotted into the team like a seasoned professional from the very first day. "His performances have been of a consistently high standard and it's great for Wycombe Wanderers that we're able to keep him and aid his development for the whole season. "We have a great relationship with Brentford and would like to thank them for entrusting us with one of their young talents and allowing him to stay with us." Mawson has played 22 league matches for Wycombe, scoring one goal, and is available for the play-offs if required. Brentford academy director Ose Aibangee told the Bees' official website: "Wycombe were very keen to keep Alfie for the season. He has had a very positive impact and proved himself at a top League Two team. "We were very happy for him to stay and continue to get Football League experience."
