Silkmen sunk by Shrews

Image: Harrold: Netted Shrewsbury's winner

Shrewsbury maintained their 100% start to the season with a professional 1-0 win at lacklustre Macclesfield on Saturday.

The visitors took the lead in the third minute and then suffocated Macclesfield with some tight defending. Left-back Mat Sadler set up the goal with a charging run to the byline before pulling the ball back for Matt Harrold to slot home from eight yards off the near post. Macc battled hard for an equaliser with Tyrone Barnett heading wide at the far post in the 17th minute, Paul Bolland clipping a drive over the bar in the 25th minute and Vinny Mukendi heading wide on the stroke of half-time. Shrewsbury were more adventurous after the break and were desperately unlucky not to extend their lead in the 75th minute when sub Ben Van Den Broek saw a shot cannon off the underside of the crossbar. Macc nearly grabbed an undeserved equaliser in injury-time when Hamza Bencherif took the ball past sub keeper Chris Neill only to see Daniel O'Donnell clear the ball off the line.
